Drill Operator

Basic Purpose and Objective

Drill Operator operates drill machines for the manufacture of all types of fasteners.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

·        Operates up to two drill machines to produce machined parts according to blueprints, specifications and/or special instructions.

·        Starts and operates machine operation to detect out-of-tolerance machining and adjust controls and machine as required.

·        Operates machine on trial run to check accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.

·        Checks parts for conformance to specifications using micrometers, calipers and gauges and perform SPC

·        Recognizes and remedies minor machine malfunctioning or cutting action of tools. Discrepancies are reported to department lead and/or supervisor for assistance.

·        Identifies, disassembles, and determines corrective action required to repair work or broken parts.

·        Checks tooling and reworks as needed to keep machine running.

·        Lays out parts for successive and continuous machining operations.

·        Must be able to troubleshoot cutters and fingers. Tooling necessary for setup and operation.

·        Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards, by following blueprints or work instructions.

·        Reads blueprint or job order for product specification such as dimensions, tolerance, number, or parts to be checked.

·        Performs record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and follows safety regulations.

·        Other duties may be assigned.

Skills and Formal Training Requirements/Experience

·        Able to read, comprehend, and execute directions from mechanical drawings.

·        Able to measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
